FORT WORTH, Texas (March 22, 2007): NHRA veteran racer and pioneer Eddie Hill will join the list of inductees into the Texas Motor Sports Hall of Fame during ceremonies on April 11 at The Speedway Club at Texas Motor Speedway. In addition, Texas Motor Speedway and Happy Hill Farm Academy announced today that legendary car owner Roger Penske and NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series drivers Tony Stewart and Jeff Burton will also be honored during the awards ceremony.
Hill joins previous inductees A.J. Foyt, Johnny Rutherford, Terry Labonte, Lee Shepherd, Kenny Bernstein and Jim Hall into the Texas Motor Sports Hall of Fame.
Hill, inducted into the NHRA Hall of Fame in 1978, is credited with numerous milestones during his storied career. The record books show Hill to be the first driver to cover a quarter mile in less than five seconds, as well as the first to break the 200-mph barrier in a gas-powered car when he attained a speed of 202.07 mph in Hobbs, N.M. in 1962. The Wichita Falls, Texas native was also noted in The Guinness Book of World Records for eleven years for recording the fastest speed ever turned in a propeller-driven boat at 229 mph.
The Bruton Smith Legends Award, a lifetime achievement award given to a legendary figure in motorsports, will be presented to Penske. Penske is best known for amassing the Penske Racing empire that includes race teams that compete on the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup and Busch Series circuits, as well as the IndyCar Series. Penske Racing is the most successful Indy car team in history, compiling over 130 victories, 12 national championships and 14 Indianapolis 500 victories.

Stewart also leads all Cup drivers at Texas Motor Speedway in laps led with 452.
NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series competitor Burton will be recognized with the Texas Motor Speedway Sportsmanship Award. Burton is the inaugural winner of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event held at Texas Motor Speedway in 1997 and has posted two top-five and four top-10 finishes in 12 starts. Away from the race track, Burton is a strong supporter and contributor to the Duke Children’s Hospital at Duke University in Durham, N.C.
